The Great Race...

The Great Race is the country's longest running and richest vintage automobile rally. Each year more than 100 vintage automobiles participate, and we are inviting you to join us for the 2006 race!

Each day, drivers and navigators carefully follow a set course while competing in a time-speed-distance race. Vehicles must be 45 years or older and the age factor plays a big part in the final score. Last year's oldest car to enter was a 1910 Seldon Roadster. The winning car was a 1928 Model A Ford Speedster driven by Greg Cunningham and navigated by Sam Geoppinger !

The Great Race Staff, volunteers, and driver support crews bypass the competitors and drive ahead to the various pit, lunch, and overnight stops to set up and prepare for the patriotic-themed community festivities surrounding the competitor's arrivals. This is an event for the whole family!

The X-Cup...

The X-Cup is in a division of its own in The Great Race competition. It gives young adults the chance to compete for scholarship money, and to travel across the country meeting hundreds of people while learning valuable life lessons.

Two high school teams, one from Titusville, FL and the other from Granbury, TX entered the 1997 MBNA Great Race. One day prior to the start of the race 4,600 mile rally race, Great Race founder, Tom McRae, and veteran competitors posted a $5,000 scholarship fund for the winning high school team, and created the first X-Cup competition. The X-Cup quickly took center stage with media and fans across the country. The X-Cup Challenge now boasts a very generous $10,000 scholarship fund for its participants.

While promoting teamwork, responsibility, determination, sportsmanship, pride, self confidence, and family values, the Great Race X-Cup Challenge is an experience of a lifetime that team members will take with them for the rest of their lives.

In 2006, The Great Race will travel with 100 antique automobiles, visiting 44 cities beginning on June 24th in Philadelphia, PA and ending on July 8th in San Rafael,CA. Team Walla Walla is excited to be part of this unique event, and invites you all to follow their progress over the course of their journey!
